In a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery containing a normal temperature molten salt in a non-aqueous electrolyte, a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery having excellent charge / discharge characteristics is obtained. In a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprising a positive electrode including a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode including a negative electrode active material, and a non-aqueous electrolyte containing a room temperature molten salt, the first charge is performed after the non-aqueous electrolyte is injected. It is characterized in that, previously, the potential of the negative electrode is swept below the potential at which the cation of the room temperature molten salt undergoes reductive decomposition by potential scanning.
