abstract | A photocatalytic oxidative decomposition method and a water purification apparatus capable of improving the photocatalytic function are provided. When oxidative decomposition is performed using a photocatalyst layer made of a carbon-doped metal oxide layer provided on the surface of a metal substrate, a potential is applied to the photocatalyst layer. The photocatalyst layer is a carbon-doped titanium oxide layer or carbon-doped titanium alloy oxide layer doped with carbon, and at least the surface layer of such a photocatalyst layer is titanium, titanium alloy, titanium alloy oxide, titanium oxide, etc. The surface of the substrate can be formed by heat treatment in an atmosphere in which chemical species including carbon and oxygen are supplied to the surface. The photocatalyst layer thus formed is a dense layer and is integrated with the substrate, and the electrical conductance with the substrate is good. Thereby, the overvoltage at the time of giving a potential can be suppressed and energy loss can be reduced. [Selection figure] None |
