abstract An image forming apparatus having a configuration capable of accurately positioning an image carrier and a cleaning unit or a belt member even when the replacement is performed without causing an increase in cost. An image forming apparatus including a cleaning device for removing toner remaining on an image carrier after transfer of a toner image formed on an image carrier comprising an endless belt carrying an image. The cleaning unit 12 is disposed at a position facing the mounting member 8 on which the endless belt 6 is mounted with the endless belt 6 interposed therebetween, and the cleaning unit 12 can be attached to and detached from the image forming apparatus main body.
