abstract A method for producing 5- {4- [2- (5-ethyl-2-pyridyl) ethoxy] benzyl} -2-imino-4-thiazolidinone with high efficiency and high purity is provided. 4- [2- (5-Ethyl-2-pyridyl) ethoxy] aniline is reacted with nitrite in the presence of hydrochloric acid and then with methyl acrylate in the presence of a copper catalyst to give 2-chloro- 3- {4- [2- (5-Ethyl-2-pyridyl) ethoxy] phenyl} propionate methyl is obtained, and then reacted with thiourea in the presence of alkali to give highly dimerized impurities 5- {4 This is a method for obtaining-[2- (5-ethyl-2-pyridyl) ethoxy] benzyl} -2-imino-4-thiazolidinone.
