abstract A laccase protein having various properties advantageous for practical use is provided. According to the present invention, laccase activity as well as the following properties: (1) subunit molecular weight: about 36,000-37,000 Da; active substance molecular weight: about 70,000-80,000 Da; (2) optimum pH : About 8-9; (3) substrate specificity: oxidizes phenolic compounds, heterocyclic compounds and ascorbic acid; (4) does not require copper in the reaction mixture; (5) thermal stability: 80 ° C. 90% or more activity is retained by treatment for 10 minutes at (6) Surfactant resistance: 90% or more activity is retained in the presence of 1% sodium dodecyl sulfate; (7) Chelating agent A novel laccase protein having resistance: 5-50 mM ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid retains 90% or more activity; and (8) does not require glycosylation for activity.
