abstract | [Solution] Based on genetic polymorphisms related to the effectiveness of a drug containing pioglitazone or a salt thereof as an active ingredient, diabetic patients who are effective in suppressing the progression of arteriosclerosis or the onset of cardiovascular events are selected and determined. Provide a way to do it. The present invention also provides a drug that is effective in suppressing the progression of arteriosclerosis or the onset of cardiovascular events. [Means] The method of the present invention can be carried out by using as an index that a diabetic patient has the following genotype for at least one gene of either (1) or (2): (1) ACE (D / I): Genotype D / D + D / I, (2) MTHFR (C677T): Genotype T / T + C / T.
