A gold electrode in which a single-stranded nucleic acid probe having a base sequence complementary to a target gene is immobilized is inserted into an electrolyte solution containing the target gene, and copper ions are added to the gold solution. The target gene is detected by performing electrodeposition of copper ions using an electrode as the working electrode and confirming the change in the electrodeposition phenomenon due to hybridization of the nucleic acid probe and the target gene.
