The present invention solves the conventional problems of a cellulose ester film produced by a melt film-forming method, and provides a functional film of cellulose ester having excellent optical performance and excellent surface characteristics. Furthermore, a polarizing plate and a liquid crystal display device using the same are provided. A functional film having a hard coat layer on the surface of a cellulose ester film produced by a melt film-forming method, wherein the cellulose ester film comprises a glycerin fatty acid ester, a diglycerin fatty acid ester, and a sorbitan fatty acid ester. Of which at least one of them is contained in an amount of 0.05% by mass to 2.0% by mass and the hard coat layer has an solubility parameter of 18.5 to 21 (MPa) 1/2 in the coating solution.
