Bisphosphonates, known as oral osteoporosis treatments, are formulated as tablets and do not take the tablets with sufficient water or stand upright for approximately 30 minutes after the patient has taken the drug. Several side effects, including esophageal irritation and erosion, have been reported if the posture was not maintained. Provided is a formulation that allows the bisphosphonate medicament to be taken orally and avoids problems associated with sustained contact between the drug and the esophagus.
