Novel amplicons in the 20q13 region of human chromosome 20 and uses thereof |
abstract |
Disclosed is a clear characterization of a nucleic acid sequence in 20q13 associated with a tumor phenotype. The present invention relates to the fields of cancer genetics and cytogenetics. In particular, the invention relates to the identification of nucleic acid sequences associated with novel amplicons on human chromosome 20 that are associated with cancer. More particularly, the present invention relates to the identification of novel “amplicons” or genomic nucleic acids in the region of amplification at about 20q13.2 associated with various cancers, particularly breast cancer. The novel amplicons of the present invention can be used as probes specific for this region of 20q13.2 and for the diagnosis and prognosis of various cancers. Kits are also provided for screening for the presence and copy number of the novel amplicons of the invention in samples containing human nucleic acids. [Selection figure] None |
