abstract The present invention relates to the determination of the nucleotide and amino acid sequences of antigens detected by MCA 44-3A6. The present invention relates to the isolation of a cDNA molecule encoding a protein termed lavirintin (Lab) and to determine its nucleotide sequence. To do. This protein, or a peptide derived from this protein, is a useful marker for defining a new class of cancer. Diagnostic assays for these cancers use antibodies to Lab, or nucleotide probes that hybridize with the lab gene or fragments thereof. A vaccine useful to either prevent cancer recurrence in a subject positive for Lab (or lab) or to prevent early development of cancer uses a protein or peptide derived from Lab. .
