abstract | The present invention provides a method for producing an aromatic polyester by copolymerizing a 6,6 ′-(alkylenedioxy) -2-naphthoic acid component in which generation of by-products such as diethylene glycol is suppressed. When a 6,6 ′-(alkylenedioxy) di-2-naphthoic acid (ANA) component, another aromatic dicarboxylic acid and ethylene glycol are reacted, 6,6 ′-(alkylenedioxy) di-2-naphthoic acid or its ester-forming derivative used has a pH in the range of 4.5 to 7.5 when 20% by weight of water is slurried.
