abstract An ink jet recording apparatus and an image recording method are provided that perform preferable image recording without causing an abnormality such as curling on a recording medium. A permeation inhibitor 1 is deposited on a paper 16 to form a permeation inhibitor layer 1A on the paper 16. Next, when the treatment liquid 2 that causes the coloring material in the ink to aggregate (or thickens the ink dots) is deposited on the permeation suppressor layer 1A, the treatment liquid 2 does not penetrate into the paper 16 and the treatment liquid layer. 2A is formed. When the CMYK inks 3 are ejected according to the image data after the treatment liquid layer 2A is formed, the treatment liquid layer 2A and the ink 3 react on the paper 16 to form ink dots 3A (desired image).
