abstract The present invention provides a novel boron nitride-based nanotube that is easily dispersed in an organic solvent, is easy to handle, and has improved molding processability, a method for producing the same, and a boron nitride nanotube gel that is a production raw material. Disclosed are boron nitride nanotubes in which hydrogen atoms of NH groups present on boron nitride nanotubes are substituted with alkyl groups, a method for producing the same, and a boron nitride nanotube gel used for producing boron nitride nanotubes. Boron nitride nanotubes can be produced by reacting boron nitride nanotube gel obtained by mixing boron nitride nanotubes and ionic liquid with an alkyl halide. [Selection] Figure 6
