Disclosed is a transcription activator whose transcription ability changes by more than 3 orders of magnitude. The transactivator is a fusion of a DNA binding protein (eg, a Tet repressor) and a minimal transcriptional activation domain derived from herpes simplex virus protein 16 (VP16). A transactivator whose transactivation ability is altered by a substitution mutation at amino acid position 442 in this minimal VP16 domain. In addition, additional variants with altered transactivation ability due to the chimeric activation domain comprising both wild-type and mutant minimal VP16 domains. [Selection figure] None |
