abstract The present invention provides a thermal transfer sheet that suppresses deformation of the thermal transfer sheet during high-speed printing and at the same time reduces the amount of deposits on the thermal printer head. A thermal transfer sheet having a dye layer containing a thermally transferable pigment and resin on one side of a base film and a heat-resistant slipping layer containing inorganic particles and resin formed on the other side. The inorganic particles contained in the heat resistant slipping layer have a Mohs hardness in the range of 3 to 7, an average particle diameter of 0.3 to 5 μm, and the ratio of the individual inorganic particles to the maximum equivalent sphere diameter.
