abstract In an electrophotographic apparatus, when assembled so as to be in contact with the outer peripheral surface of an image carrier, the nip width between the image carrier and the image carrier is sufficiently large even in the central portion in the axial direction. To provide a charging roll which is ensured and thus has improved contactability (grounding property) with an image carrier. A conductive base layer provided around a shaft body and a resistance adjustment layer provided on an outer peripheral surface of the conductive base layer. The conductive base layer and the resistance adjustment layer are provided. The conductive base layer 14 is thickest at the central portion in the axial direction, and is formed at the both end portions. The resistance adjustment layer 16 was formed so as to be thinner gradually toward the end, and the resistance adjustment layer 16 was formed to be the thinnest at the center in the axial direction and gradually thicker toward both ends.
