To provide an image forming apparatus and an image forming method capable of quickly and stably removing a solvent from an intermediate transfer member. In an image forming apparatus, a processing liquid applying unit that applies a processing liquid onto an intermediate transfer member, an ink discharge unit that deposits ink on the intermediate transfer member, and an intermediate transfer member while being driven to rotate. Provided on the downstream side in the rotation direction of the roller member from a contact position between the intermediate transfer member and a roller member that collects the solvent after the reaction between the processing liquid and the ink in contact with each other and a recess provided on an outer peripheral surface.
