Use of glucan for the manufacture of an immunostimulatory composition and use of glucan as a medicament |
abstract |
A novel β- (1-3) -glucan from yeast characterized by increased activity stimulating the immune system of fish and other animals is provided. Furthermore, a novel method for the production of β- (1-3) -glucan from yeast with increased drug activity is provided. Also provided are novel soluble β- (1-3) -glucans derived from yeast useful for enhancing the activity of animal vaccines. Furthermore, a novel feed grade glucan composition useful as a component in conventional animal feed is provided. Treatment of pure or feed-grade glucan with β- (1-6) -glucanase, particularly from yeast cells derived from the yeast genus Saccharomyces, in particular from the yeast species Saccharomyces cerevisiae, stimulates the immune system of the host animal. A novel glucan product suitable for use to increase In order to extend the availability of yeast cell glucan to adjuvants, solubilization of such yeast cell glucan is further disclosed.
