To provide additional markers and therapeutic targets for further improving diagnosis and treatment for prostate cancer and related cancers. A novel gene (designated PHOR-1) that is highly overexpressed in prostate cancer and other cancers, as well as its encoded protein, is provided. PHOR-1 is a G protein-coupled receptor that has homology to receptors involved in the olfactory sense. PHOR-1 in normal human tissue is restricted to the prostate, and this gene is highly overexpressed in prostate cancer and in kidney, uterus, cervix, stomach, and rectal cancers. As a result, PHOR-1 is a diagnostic and / or therapeutic target for prostate cancer. [Selection figure] None |
