Provided is a prognostic / diagnostic marker for esophageal cancer having sufficiently high prediction accuracy, a prognosis / diagnostic method using such a marker, and also highly expresses the prognostic marker gene. It is an object of the present invention to provide a therapeutic method and a therapeutic agent that target cancer cells with high colony forming ability. The above problems have been solved by finding that the genes EMX2 and TTYH2 are useful for predicting the postoperative prognosis of esophageal cancer, and finding that suppression of the expression of these genes correlates with colony-forming ability. .
