abstract An airway transplantation device for maintaining and / or creating an opening in an air passage. An airway transplant device for maintaining and / or creating an opening in an air passage is disclosed. A method of using the apparatus is also disclosed. The airway transplant device includes a deformable element 8 that controls the opening of the air passage. The deformable element is preferably an electroactive polymer element 8. When the wall of the air passage collapses, energizing the electroactive polymer element provides support to the wall and thus opens the air passage completely or partially.
