The present invention provides a method for producing an optically active β-hydroxycarboxylic acid derivative by a catalytic asymmetric synthesis method with high efficiency and good asymmetric yield. A β-keto compound is subjected to an asymmetric hydrogenation reaction in the presence of a catalyst comprising a transition metal complex compound having a 2,3-bis (dialkylphosphino) pyrazine derivative as a ligand. A method for producing an optically active β-hydroxycarboxylic acid derivative. It is preferable that the pyrazine derivative is a quinoxaline derivative and the transition metal is ruthenium. Examples of the quinoxaline derivative include (S, S) -2,3-bis (tert-butylmethylphosphino) quinoxaline, (R, R) -bis (tert-butylmethylphosphino) quinoxaline, (S, S) -2. , 3-bis (adamantylmethylphosphino) quinoxaline, (R, R) -bis (adamantylmethylphosphino) quinoxaline and the like are preferable.
