abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable compression ratio internal combustion engine capable of appropriately controlling a compression ratio according to an operating state by smoothly performing relative movement between a cylinder block and a crankcase. An internal combustion engine (1) includes a cylinder block (2), a cylinder head (3), a crankcase (4), and a moving mechanism (5). The internal combustion engine (1) is configured such that the compression ratio can be changed by relatively moving the cylinder block (2), the cylinder head (3), and the crankcase (4) by the moving mechanism (5). The internal combustion engine (1) further includes an adjustment mechanism for adjusting a temperature difference between the cylinder block (2) and the crankcase (4). [Selection] Figure 1
