abstract The present invention provides a method capable of producing 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid inexpensively and efficiently under mild reaction conditions without requiring an expensive catalyst or solvent. The method for producing 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid according to the present invention comprises a 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid by a Cannizzaro reaction to 2-carboxy-5-formylfuran (hereinafter abbreviated as CFF) in an aqueous solution in an alkaline environment. A method for producing a furandicarboxylic acid (hereinafter abbreviated as FDCA), A catalyst and an oxidizing agent are added to an aqueous solution in which the Cannizzaro reaction is performed, and 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furancarboxylic acid (hereinafter abbreviated as HMFA) by-produced in the reaction is oxidized and returned to CFF.
