abstract An organic EL element material having a controlled emission wavelength, high emission efficiency, and a long emission lifetime, and an organic EL element, an illumination device, and a display device using the same are provided. An organic electroluminescent element material comprising a transition metal metal complex of group 8 to 10 of the periodic table of elements. The ligand has a structure in which two cyclic compounds A ring and B ring are bonded. For example, the ring A is partly C of the aromatic ring of fluorene having a substituent at the 9,9-position. A tricyclic N-containing heterocyclic ring or a tricyclic N-containing heterocyclic derivative in which a part of the aromatic ring of carbazole having an N-substituent is changed to N, and ring B is a 2-pyridyl group, 2 -N-containing 6- or 5-membered ring such as 1-pyrazolyl group of pyrazine group.
