abstract A high-capacity positive electrode active material that enables excellent load characteristics and high initial charge / discharge efficiency of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is provided. A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a non-aqueous electrolyte, and performs charge / discharge by movement of lithium ions between the positive electrode and the negative electrode. The positive electrode is composed of a positive electrode mixture and a positive electrode current collector. The positive electrode mixture includes a positive electrode active material, a conductive agent, and a binder (binder). As the positive electrode active material, Li l + x-a ( Mn y M 1-y) 1-x O 2 ± b (0 <a <0.3,0 <b <0.1,0 <x <0.4, 0 <y ≦ 1, 0.95 <1 + xa <1.15, and M is at least one transition metal excluding manganese (Mn).
