abstract [PROBLEMS] To obtain 2,3,4-trihydroxybenzophenone having a high yield and high quality and high purity without using complicated or harsh manufacturing operations and generating almost no harmful and difficult-to-treat waste. The present invention provides an industrial manufacturing method that enables significant cost reduction. In a method for producing trihydroxybenzophenone by reacting pyrogallol and benzotrichloride, a crude pyrogallol reaction solution obtained by decarboxylation of gallic acid is used as the pyrogallol as it is.
