titleOfInvention | Ratiometric test strip and method |
abstract | The present invention relates generally to apparatus, systems and methods adapted for use by patients to monitor their dietary intake of sodium, without the need for laboratory equipment or collection of blood samples. The system uses a test strip to measure the concentration of analytes in the urine, in particular chloride and creatinine. Urine chloride concentration, normalized by creatinine concentration to reduce variability mainly due to changes in hydration status, is the salinity of subjects, particularly those with hypertension or congestive heart failure who must carefully control salt intake. Acts as a convenient monitoring surrogate for intake. |
