abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cigarette and a filter subassembly for use with the cigarette, and a method for manufacturing the cigarette and the cigarette filter. An improved delivery of additive material to a cigarette is provided through the use of one or more capsules (36) that contain additive material, such as flavor components, in a filter section (26) of cigarettes. To do. One or more capsules are provided between the first and second absorbent members (32, 34) that release at least a portion of the additive material and expose the additive material to mainstream smoke passing through the filter. In order to do so, an external force such as squeezing by a smoker is applied before or during the cigarette smoke absorption. The capsule provides a barrier, such as an adsorbent or filter material, between the additive material and other cigarette components to reduce migration of the additive material into other cigarette components prior to desired use. An outer cover (40) that is impermeable to the fluid in the capsule is provided around the one or more capsules and the first and second absorbent members. [Selection] Figure 2
