titleOfInvention | Subcutaneous cardiac defibrillator |
abstract | Cardioversion / defibrillation that is totally subcutaneously implantable with minimal surgical entry into the patient's body and distributed as needed to deliver cardioversion / defibrillation shock and pacing therapy across the heart A SubQ ICD is disclosed that provides fibrillation sensing and stimulation electrodes. The configuration includes a hermetic housing with one or optionally two subcutaneous sensing and cardioversion / defibrillation therapy delivery leads, or two hermetic housings interconnected by power / signal cables. The housing is usually dynamically configurable to accommodate various rib structures and associated arteries of the thoracic cavity and muscle. In addition, the housing can optionally be flexibly adjusted for ease of implantation and patient comfort. |
