abstract A retrospective pharmacogenetic analysis was performed in an attempt to evaluate the possible relationship between genetic variation and clinical trial results of the effects of aliskiren as an antihypertensive agent. Forty-eight gene polymorphisms were tested in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAS) or 12 genes already implicated in blood pressure control. 1 gene polymorphism in the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) gene, 2 gene polymorphisms in the angiotensin II type 2 receptor (AGTR2) gene, and a significant relationship between the mean loci and systolic blood pressure reduction clinical parameters A relationship was seen. These effects were not seen with irbesartan and placebo treatment, but instead were specific to aliskiren treatment.
