abstract The invention described herein includes a resilient elastic product such as a glove that is particularly useful in the industrial and medical fields. The product includes an elastic substrate and a fluid-repellent coating composition that effectively repels both hydrophilic and hydrophobic liquids from its surface. The coating contains a low surface energy component such as a fluoroalkyl acrylic polymer. In a preferred embodiment, the low surface energy component is combined with a hydrophobic component such as a wax-based dispersion. Products prepared in accordance with the present invention reduce the risk of contamination associated with blood and other bodily fluids and reduce visual interference based on fluids to increase the clarity of medical procedures. The present invention also provides a fluid repellant coating composition for an elastic product, a process for preparing a fluid repellant elastic product, and a method for reducing the ability of a fluid to adhere to the surface of an elastic product.
