titleOfInvention | Composition for forming a composite based on wet fibers |
abstract | Compositions based on wet fibers comprising wet glass fibers, water dispersible polymer resins, and gypsum are provided. Ingredients including melamine formaldehyde, fillers, coupling agents, acetic acid, accelerators, and / or curing agents can also be added to the composition. The gypsum may be α-gypsum, β-gypsum, or a combination thereof. The wet glass fiber is wet chopped glass fiber or wet continuous roving. The combination of wet glass fiber, water dispersible polymer resin, and gypsum has a synergistic effect that produces a composite product that is water resistant, fire resistant and has improved mechanical properties. In one exemplary embodiment, the wet fiber based composition is used to form a gypsum board that can be formed into various composite products. In another exemplary embodiment, a thin multilayer gypsum board can be formed by alternating layers of gypsum / polymer slurry and glass mat. |
