Method for in vitro diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease using monoclonal antibodies |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a method for in vitro diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease using a monoclonal antibody. The antibody can bind at least to amino acids 12-16 of β-amyloid peptide, specifically detects neuritic plaques characteristic of Alzheimer's disease, and detects diffuse plaques that do not define the characteristics of the disease do not do. Within the neuritic plaques, the monoclonal antibody can detect different subgroups in the composition of different deposited isoforms of β-amyloid peptide that are associated with the stage of disease progression. Furthermore, the antibody can bind to an isoform of β-amyloid peptide in a biological fluid such as urine. As a result, the monoclonal antibodies of the invention, cell lines producing the antibodies and compositions comprising the same can be used to in vitro diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and to determine the stage of progression of the disease. |
