titleOfInvention | Use of cardiac hormones to assess cardiovascular risks associated with the administration of anti-inflammatory agents |
abstract | The present invention relates to the use of cardiac hormones, in particular natriuretic peptides, for diagnosing cardiovascular risk in patients who are being administered Cox-2 inhibitory compounds, in particular NSAIDs, selective Cox-2 inhibitors or steroids. More particularly, the present invention relates to the use of heart hormones, in particular natriuretic peptides, to diagnose cardiovascular risk in patients who are administered a selective Cox-2 inhibitor, the following steps: Preferably measuring in vitro; (b) diagnosing the patient's risk by comparing the measured level to known levels associated with various degrees of risk of the patient. The most preferred heart hormone in the present invention is NT-proBNP. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a method for diagnosing the risk of a patient suffering from cardiovascular complications by administering a Cox-2 inhibitory compound, the following steps: (a) measuring the level of heart hormone; (b) Diagnosing the patient's risk by comparing the measured level to a known level associated with various degrees of patient risk.
