titleOfInvention | Medical device having a porous polymeric region for controlled drug delivery and controlled biocompatibility |
abstract | The present invention relates to phase-separated polymeric regions and their use in conjunction with implantable or insertable medical devices. In some embodiments of the invention, (a) at least one biostable polymer phase, and (b) undergoing biodisintegration such that the phase separated polymer region becomes a nanoporous polymer region in vivo. A phase-separated polymer region comprising at least one biodegradable polymer phase on a nanoscale scale is provided. Another aspect of the invention is directed to a method of making an implantable or insertable medical device having at least one nanoporous polymeric region. These methods consist of (a) preparing a phase-separated polymer region that includes a stable polymer phase and a disintegrate polymeric phase on a nanoscale scale; (b) Selectively removing the molecular phase, thereby creating a nanoporous polymer region. In yet another aspect, (a) at least one block copolymer having at least one biostable polymer block and at least one biodegradable polymer block; and (b) in vivo simultaneously with implantation or insertion of a medical device. An implantable or insertable medical device is provided having a phase separated polymeric region comprising at least one therapeutic agent released in [Selection] Figure 1 |
