The present invention relates to the use of ibudilast to treat neuropathic pain and is based on the surprising discovery that neuropathic pain can be effectively treated or prevented by administration of ibudilast. In one embodiment, the method includes selecting a mammalian subject experiencing neuropathic pain and subsequently subjecting the subject to a maximum plasma concentration of at least about 100 to about 125 ng / ml ibudilast or higher. Administering an initial therapeutic dosage of ibudilast effective to achieve and, as a result of the administration, the subject experiences a reduction (ie, attenuation or reduction, elimination, or reversal) of neuropathic pain . |
