Methods and compositions for enhancing vascular access |
abstract |
Disclosed is a graft material comprising a biocompatible matrix and cells that can generally facilitate functionality when delivered to a vascular access structure. For example, the transplant material of the present invention not only enhances the maturation of natural arteriovenous fistulas, but also can prolong the fistulas in a mature functional state suitable for dialysis. Furthermore, the present invention not only promotes the formation of functional arteriovenous grafts suitable for dialysis, but can also promote the formation of functional peripheral bypass grafts. The graft material is a flexible flat surface with shape-retaining properties suitable for implantation at or near the anastomosis or arteriovenous graft at the anastomosis or arteriovenous graft. It can be configured as a form or flowable construct. According to the methods disclosed herein, the graft material is delivered to the outer surface of the blood vessel. Certain embodiments of the flexible planar form define a slot. |
