abstract | A method for preparing a functionalized polyolefin is described. The method of the present invention, (i) a polyolefin, (ii) a compound containing a functional group, and (iii) formula (I) X n -YZ m: in the formula, Y is an core portion; Z is a carbon - carbon A moiety containing a double bond or a carbon-carbon triple bond; X is a moiety different from Z and the bond between X and Y may be a single bond or a double bond A coagent compound having: n is an integer greater than or equal to 0; m is an integer greater than or equal to 2; and m + n is equal to a number up to the valence of Y Wherein (a) when m is 2 and n is 0, the process first reacts the polyolefin with an auxiliary reagent to form a product, after which the product Reacting with a compound containing a functional group, and (b) the compound containing a functional group is a free radical-mediated polymerization reaction. It is substantially inert in fine free-radical-mediated graft reaction. The invention also relates to a functionalized polyolefin produced by such a method. Functionalized polyolefins have improved chemical and physical properties and are used, for example, in preparing composites and blends applied to the packaging and automotive industries. |
