Modified phenol novolac resin and its application |
abstract |
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phenol novolac resin and a method for synthesizing the phenol novolak resin, and to apply it particularly in a reinforced rubber composition. A modified phenol novolac resin is prepared by reacting a phenolic compound (eg, resorcinol) with an aliphatic polyol. The reaction mixture is further reacted with formaldehyde to prepare a modified phenol novolac resin. The reaction is typically carried out in the presence of an acid catalyst or a salt catalyst. The resulting resin is characterized by relatively low levels of free resorcinol, and rubber compositions containing that resin have less fuming, lower Mooney viscosity (meaning better processability), better dynamics. Exhibit stiffness properties (G ′) and / or good tear properties. Therefore, the obtained resin can be used as a methylene acceptor compound in a vulcanizable rubber composition.
