titleOfInvention | Improvements on Neisseria meningitidis outer membrane vesicles |
abstract | OMVs targeted against specific epidemic strains are very effective in controlling the local onset of the disease. In a combination of mass and reproducible manufacturing techniques, vaccines can be produced rapidly after development. The present invention provides a method for preparing a meningococcal outer membrane vesicle (OMV) vaccine, the method comprising (i) the development of meningococcal meningitis for use in the manufacture of a vaccine And (ii) preparing an OMV from Neisseria meningitidis having the serum subtype identified in step (i). The method comprises the steps of: (iii) prescribing the OMV as a vaccine; and (iv) delivering the vaccine to a geographic region that is or will be affected by the outbreak. One or both can be included. This meningococcal strain is typically serogroup B, but may replace serogroups A, C, W135, Y, and the like. |
