abstract An ophthalmic laser system that generates a controlled burst of laser pulses with a system control processor that calculates the expected tissue impact and total treatment time based on selected laser treatment parameters. The system includes a graphical user interface that displays the expected tissue impact to the user (ophthalmologist) to help select the optimal treatment parameters. The present system and method of operation are particularly useful for procedures such as selective retinal therapy by displaying a therapeutic window for realizing treatment of the target tissue without damaging surrounding tissue.
