titleOfInvention Flashback blood collection needle
abstract The needle assembly includes a transparent or translucent housing having a fluid inlet end, a fluid outlet end, a flashback chamber and a venting mechanism therebetween. An inlet cannula and an outlet cannula, which are substantially centerline aligned, extend from the housing and communicate with the chamber. A sealable sleeve covers the outer end of the outlet cannula. Using an internal vent plug that covers the outlet of the flashback chamber to prevent leakage of blood from the needle due to withdrawal from the patient, the relative volumes in the multiple cannulas, chambers, and sleeves are quick and indicative of venous entry. Selected to provide reliable flashback.
