titleOfInvention | Ignition wire with graft coating and method for producing the same |
abstract | The ignition wire includes a conductive core, an insulating layer that surrounds the core, an insulating skin that surrounds the insulating layer, and a coating layer that is grafted and bonded to at least a portion of the outer surface of the insulating skin. The coating layer and the insulation skin are preferably formed from a silicone material. The coating layer serves to provide not only improved heat and wear resistance to the outer surface of the insulating skin, but also other benefits. The coating layer is transparent and can provide an aesthetically pleasing clear coat, or it can be tinted or colored to produce various other cosmetic or decorative properties on the outer surface of the ignition line . The coating layer achieves these enhanced protections without reducing the electrical or mechanical performance characteristics of either the insulating layer or the insulating skin. The coating layer is also adapted to provide protection to a decorative layer that can be applied to the outer surface of the insulating skin. |
