abstract |
Catalysts useful for olefin epoxidation reactions are disclosed. These catalysts include vinyl pyridine polymer and titanium zeolite. Titanium zeolite encapsulated with vinylpyridine polymer is preferred. These catalysts are easy to prepare and use, easy to recover and reuse, and convert olefins to epoxides with high yield and high selectivity. Surprisingly, the ring-opening reaction to produce glycols or glycol ether by-products is minimized by the catalyst containing the vinylpyridine polymer. These catalysts are useful for producing propylene oxide from propylene and hydrogen peroxide. Similarly disclosed is the production of hydrogen peroxide from hydrogen and oxygen by transition metals encapsulated with vinylpyridine polymers and their use. |
