Smoking articles such as cigarettes, a smoke filter (3) or other component comprising a catalyst (3b) for oxidizing carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide. The catalyst (3b) contains an oxide of gold and zinc or titanium. Mixed oxides of titania and zinc and copper or aluminum are preferred (TiO 2, ZnO, ZnAlO x, or CuZnO x). Gold preferably includes a class of metallic states (Au 0 ) and a class of oxidized states (Au δ + ). |
