The present invention relates to a method for producing an electrophotographic photosensitive member capable of stably generating a high-quality image even when used repeatedly for a long time, and an electrophotographic photosensitive member using the same. An image forming apparatus and a process cartridge for the image forming apparatus are provided. A resin layer mainly composed of a binder resin is formed on a conductive substrate (1) (resin layer forming step), and then a supercritical fluid and / or a subcritical fluid containing an electron transport material is contained in the resin layer. An undercoat layer (2) is formed by contacting a critical fluid (supercritical fluid processing step), and a charge generation layer (3) and a charge transport layer (4) are sequentially provided on the undercoat layer to form an electrophotographic photoreceptor.
