abstract | An economical and efficient purification method for a crude α-hydroxycarboxylic acid dimer cyclic ester is provided. A specific high-boiling polar organic solvent is added to a crude α-hydroxycarboxylic acid dimer cyclic ester, and the mixture is heated to a temperature of 230 ° C. or higher under normal pressure or reduced pressure. A dimer cyclic ester is made into a homogeneous solution with the high boiling polar organic solvent, and heating is continued in a liquid phase state of the homogeneous solution to convert the α-hydroxycarboxylic acid dimer cyclic ester into the high boiling polar organic solvent.
