titleOfInvention | Coating device for medical device having antithrombotic conjugate |
abstract | A coating agent for a medical device is provided. A conjugate between an antithrombotic agent and a bioabsorbable polymer is provided. Further provided is a method of applying a coating comprising an antithrombotic agent and a bioabsorbable polymer conjugate to at least a portion of an implantable device to prevent or reduce thrombus formation on the surface of the device. The first or lower layer of the coating is prepared by mixing the polymeric material and bioactive agent with a solvent, thereby forming a homogeneous solution. The second or outer layer comprises an antithrombotic heparin-bioabsorbable polymer conjugate. This coating agent can be applied to the drug-containing inner layer. After drying, the antithrombotic heparin-bioabsorbable polymer conjugate remains in the outer coating layer and the agent can be eluted from the inner layer to the outer layer. Furthermore, the outermost layer prevents the formation of thrombosis, and also helps regulate the release rate of the bioactive agent contained within the inner layer of the coating agent.
